Gazzo’s Steaks – “The Champion of Steaks”

You’re thinking to yourself, it’s “just a food truck”. NOT. It’s a food truck with over 200,000 hits on one of their reels on Facebook.

You can’t just say the place is busy. Gazzo’s Steaks is swamped. There are lines, all the time, whenever they are open.

While on “Grandparent” duty recently, before they left, our son and daughter-in-law told us about this crazy good cheesesteak place on the obscure corner of Pennsylvania State Route 100 and North State Street, slightly north of downtown Pottstown, PA, but with a Pottstown zipcode.

As we had to pass by to pick up the grandkids from school, we thought we’d call up around 4:30pm to order ONE cheesesteak to pick up at 5:15pm. Wrong. They were already sold out of meat for the day. Kind of reminded us of Ravanisi’s Pizzeria selling out of “doughs” days, sometimes weeks ahead.

Well, we stopped by the place anyway to see what the fuss was about, and got to talk to one of the employees.

He told us that their popularity was growing quickly due to their reels on Facebook. Be forewarned though, this is some of the best food porn you’ll ever see! He also mentioned one cheesesteak has ONE POUND OF MEAT. That’s a lot of good tasting meat.

The biggest tip of our small conversation? We found out we could order ahead our cheesesteak for lunch the next day.

The Cheesesteak

We like a good cheesesteak. The problem is, the places to find a good one, but the places to find an over the top cheesesteak are few and far between.

There are a few options, but since we were there thinking about our first steak, why not order the signature steak, the Gazzo Steak.

Menu from Gazzo Steak website (click to visit).

You can order another cheese, but it already comes standard with Cooper Sharp cheese, which sounded good to us. We did add some onions though (see picture above).

When we opened up the cheesesteak from the Gazzo wrapper to see what it looked like, we were not disappointed. It looked perfect. The meat itself practically melted in your mouth.

We normally add ketchup and I usually throw some mustard on mine as well, but, there was no need on this cheesesteak. It was scrumptious without any add-ons, and that’s saying something.

Plus, the meat was phenomenal, there was no grissle and it wasn’t chewy. Just plain ol’ good flavor.

On top of that, the cheesesteak was fabulous pairing with some Domain Jaume Generation Côtes du Rhône. Another American Wine Journey wine pairing with food success! Check out our other live recorded American Wine Journey Podcasts where we discuss wine and pairings with food.

The Details

As you already know from reading above, this place is busy because they make such a great cheeesteak. That also translates to ordering, parking, and picking up your cheesesteak.

There’s not a whole lot of parking in front of the truck itself, but there is a fair amount of parking in the buildings next door and on weekends, the adjacent Commerce Drive.

During the weekdays, watch out on Commerce Drive as that’s where the Creative Minds Montesorri School is located, so there a lot of small children, parents, and school buses in that direction.

The Wrap Up

Hands down, without question, if you’re in the area, this is where you should go for your cheesesteak.
