Even before leaving for Miami, we knew we were going there. This place came highly recommended from our son and daughter-in-law, and now we know why.
When you tout that your restaurant has seafood in a coastal city, an Asian-Latin fusion, and are surrounded by 2 dozen eating establishments within a five minute walk, you need to deliver. Mesa Mar Seafood Table delivers. And then some.
We were greeted with warm smiles and promptly seated at our table.
Carla was our server. She was bubbly, pleasant, helpful, and always there exactly when we needed her.
The Food
Often we’ll write about the restaurant first, but in this case, the food stands out that much. Similar to George and Son’s Seafood in Hockessin, DE, the fish here is fresh. We know because we eat a lot of fresh fish.
The balance of flavors, from opening cocktails all the way to dessert was as good as was promised.
While taking time to peruse the food offerings, two of us started with the Amador. It is a bourbon infused cocktail with bitters and hints of dark cherry.
The menu lives up to the hype. It’s not often you see these types of fresh food combinations. As soon as Gary saw the Heart Fish set down at a nearby table, we knew that would be what he’d be ordering.
We decided on the Corvina, Paella del Mar, and of course the Heart Fish for our entrees. Each of the entrees was seasoned perfectly, and served at the perfect temperature. The Heart Fish came both fried and grilled. For sides, we ended up getting the Yucci fries, and classic cuban beans with white rice.
The desserts? Oh my.
Once again, as soon as Gary saw the Almond Praline, the decision was made. In addition, we also ordered the Chocolate Mousse and the Flan. Unfortunately they were out of the French Chocolate Brownies à la mode, so they substituted the Strawberry Pavlova. Equally as good. All three were phenomenal.
The Place
Walking in the solid blue door takes you straight to the hostess station. The bar is behind the hostess station.
It really is chic. The inside has a nice decor, balancing between modern art meets retro traditional. Clean and stylish. It all fits together in a warm cozy atmosphere. There are several different seating areas that allow them to segregate off sections for small, medium and large parties. They even have a small, cute bar if you want to have the experience but don’t want to sit at a table alone.
There are dining areas to the left and right. They have a nice wine fridge with a reasonable selection.
How did we find it?
Well, we almost didn’t find it. even thought it takes up 262, 264 and 266 Giralda Ave. The front is fairly unassuming.
When we first pulled up and parked at the address, we There’s no flashy neon sign, no bulky marquee, no flags waving in the air. Simply tasteful writing on the windows facing the street, along with a couple of tables out on the sidewalk.
Like a number of the places we go to, this came with high recommendations. After going there, we also highly recommend Mesa Mar.
