We probably can’t talk enough about random finds.
Going to Levante Brewing Co was just that. Wonderfully random.
We were supposed to go out to dinner with a friend at a restaurant, and even had reservations. Unfortunately the day of, they didn’t feel well and had to cancel. As a result, we ended up getting invited to Levante Brewing Co by one of our kids. Mediterranean food may have been mentioned.
Similar to the Rocket Frog Brewing Co we visited in Virginia, they are located in an industrial park in the southeast section of West Chester, PA. Their building is at the end of the cul-de-sac on Carter Road, and you have to go around the other side of the building to get to the front. There’s plenty of free parking available.
The Place
Even though we showed up in the dark, it was still welcoming. They have an outside patio set up with the food truck conveniently placed near the front door. The patio had heaters lit for those who were inclined to sit outside. It looked pretty inviting.
The first thing you see walking in the door is the beer menu and the “BEER TO GO” sign. The staff (Ryan, Rachel, and Jenia) were very pleasant, explained the different beer options well, and were busy making sure everyone was properly take care of.
The second thing we noticed is that they have a lot of IPAs. Normally a brewery will have 2-3, but these guys have ELEVEN! Whoa.
The inside is pretty comfortable, and there was a nice crowd for a Thursday. As you can see, the decor is fun and comfortable. One of the locals (sitting at the table in the first picture in the slide show) said they’d been hanging out at Levante for several years, and they honored their retired beer creations on the wall over the entrance door (last picture).
The Beer
Of course when you’re at a brewery for the first time, flights are the way to go. That way you can find out what you like, and, what you like less. I had 4 different IPAs that ran the spectrum of fruity versus strong.
Even though we liked some more than others, all 4 were pretty good! The Tickle Parts brew was one of the favorites.
After the meal, we decided to couple a dessert type beer (King of Birds – stout, sweet) to go with the Baklava mentioned below. They definitely paired well together. The beer was a nitro mix and very smooth. You could taste a little chocolate, a little coffee, and a whole lot of flavor.
The Food
The Phyllodelphia food truck was there that night. They serve Greek and Mediterranean, the menu having plenty of choices. Greg and Rhaheem were attentive and took care of us.
This is where it gets kind of embarrassing. The Phyllodelphia (FB page) food was so good and we were so hungry, well, we forgot to take pictures. Let’s just say though that it looked really good and tasted even better. We ordered a variety of items:
- Phyllo Filled Triangles – all three kinds, Spanakopita (Spinach and Feta Cheese), Sausage and Cheese, and Buffalo Chicken.
- Chicken Souvlaki
- Spicy Lamb Souvlaki
We finished up with the Balkava. All of it was worth showing up for. Certainly more than one would expect from a food truck at a brewery.
